The Butler by Wil Haygood (APF’ 1988). (Atria Books)
Haygood’s interviews with Eugene Allen, who worked as the White House butler for 34 years, has been made into a movie by Lee Daniels. Haygood’s book recounts the experiences that Allen had while serving eight presidents. The film, which opens in mid-August, 2013, stars Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, Vanessa Redgrave, John Cusack, Jane Fonda, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Robin Williams.
